Severn River Bridge, Road bridge in Annapolis, United States
The Severn River Bridge is a road bridge in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, crossing the Severn River and connecting Annapolis to major regional routes. It carries seven lanes of traffic and serves as a main link between the city and the surrounding area.
The first crossing at this location was a timber bridge built in 1886, establishing the site as a key passage over the Severn River. Since then, several structures have replaced one another here as traffic demands grew over the decades.
The crossing is also known as Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge, a name adopted in 2006 to honor those who served during the historic attack. This naming reflects how the bridge holds meaning in the region's collective memory.
The bridge is open to vehicles only, so it cannot be crossed on foot or by bicycle. Traffic tends to be heavier during morning and evening rush hours, so crossing at other times of day is generally easier.
The bridge also carries the official name Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge, given in 2006 to honor those who died in the 1941 attack. Despite this designation, most locals still refer to it by its original name in everyday use.
