St. Francis Xavier Church and Newtown Manor House Historic District

St. Francis Xavier Church and Newtown Manor House Historic District features a rectangular frame church with octagonal brick additions and a separate manor house.

The church, constructed in 1731 to replace the original 1662 chapel, represents early Catholic worship in colonial Maryland during a period of religious restrictions.

This historic district preserves architectural elements from the colonial period, including Federal woodwork, a triple-vaulted ceiling, and an 1910 altar painting by Brother Schroen.
