St. Joseph's Church and Friary

The St. Joseph's Church, designed by Cudell & Richardson, features a three-part facade with Gothic arches, tall pinnacles, and clerestory windows.

The church building, established in 1873, emerged from a need to serve European immigrants in Cleveland, replacing an earlier frame structure from 1862.

The church provided religious services in German, reflecting the needs of the local immigrant population who settled in Cleveland during the 1850s.

The structure measures 66 feet by 145 feet and incorporates a connected monastery residence, forming an integrated religious complex.

In 1993, the church met its end through three separate fires within one month, leading to its demolition after serving the community for 120 years.
