Finneran Pavilion, multi-purpose arena in Villanova, Pennsylvania
Finneran Pavilion is a modern arena on Villanova University's campus in Pennsylvania that seats around 6,500 people. The building features a distinctive curved roof and contains basketball courts for men's and women's teams, along with event spaces.
The original pavilion opened in 1986, replacing the older Jake Nevin Field House from 1932. After a major renovation from 2017 to 2018, it was renamed in 2017 to honor William Finneran, whose substantial donation funded the extensive updates.
The pavilion serves as a gathering place for the Villanova community, where students, alumni, and fans come together on game days. The student section in the south end shows how central the basketball teams are to campus life.
The pavilion is easily accessible by public transportation including SEPTA buses and trains. The facility provides ample space for visitors with entrances, food options, and various amenities for comfort.
The pavilion was originally named after John Eleuthère du Pont until he was convicted of a crime in 1997, prompting a renaming of the arena. This change marks an unusual turning point in the institution's history.
