Tue Marshes Light

Tue Marshes Light is a lighthouse that once stood at the entrance of York River with a square tower and a lantern room housing its navigation lens. The structure was built on a screw-pile foundation that allowed it to be anchored firmly in the soft marsh ground.

This lighthouse was built in 1875 and operated for roughly 140 years to help guide ships safely through the waterway. Its long service demonstrates how vital this navigation aid was for maritime traffic in the area.

The lighthouse represents maritime navigation heritage, serving maritime traffic and supporting local fishing communities through decades of continuous operation.

The screw-pile foundation was removed by the Coast Guard in 2015, well after the lighthouse itself had ceased operating. This removal marked the final end of a structure that had aided generations of sailors.
