Tower East

Tower East rises twelve floors above Shaker Heights with a modernist design featuring exposed concrete surfaces arranged in a modular grid pattern typical of International style architecture.

Constructed in 1968 by The Architects' Collaborative, Tower East was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2014, recognizing its architectural significance as Ohio's only Gropius-designed building.

The building represents mid-20th-century modernist architecture principles and serves as an educational example of Ohio's post-war economic growth and urban development patterns for preservation initiatives.

Located at 20600 Chagrin Boulevard, Tower East offers convenient access to public transportation, nearby parking facilities, and remains within walking distance of Shaker Heights' retail centers and restaurants.

Tower East holds the distinction of being the first Walter Gropius project constructed between New York and Chicago, making it a rare example of the master architect's work in the Midwest.
