Tippecanoe Battlefield Park
Tippecanoe Battlefield Park, Historical battlefield and National Historic Landmark in Battle Ground, Indiana, United States.
Tippecanoe Battlefield Park spreads across 104 acres with an 85-foot marble obelisk monument and multiple hiking trails along Burnett's Creek. The grounds also feature a nature center and various picnic areas for visitors.
The battle took place on November 7, 1811, when General William Henry Harrison fought against Native American warriors led by Tenskwatawa. This conflict had lasting effects on westward expansion and on the indigenous peoples of the region.
The name comes from a Shawnee word, and visitors can sense the spiritual importance this place held for Native peoples. The site reflects how this clash reshaped relations between settlers and the nations who lived here.
The site is easy to explore on foot, with trails connecting all areas. Plan several hours to walk around and enjoy the picnic areas and nature center.
A battle veteran named John Tipton donated the land to Indiana in 1836, exactly 25 years after the conflict ended. This gift from a combatant was unusual and shows his deep attachment to the place.
