Trump Tower

Trump Tower, Art Nouveau skyscraper on Fifth Avenue, Manhattan, United States

Trump Tower is a 58-story skyscraper on Fifth Avenue that combines a glass facade with pink marble surfaces in its interior spaces. The building houses luxury residences, retail shops, restaurants, and features a multi-level atrium with a waterfall as its focal point.

Construction took place from 1979 to 1983 on the site of the former Bonwit Teller department store, marking a turning point in Midtown's development. Architect Der Scutt designed the project as a mixed-use structure that combined residences with retail and dining.

The building blends commercial and private use in an unusual way, with retail spaces at ground level inviting passersby while upper floors remain completely private. The contrast between the open, welcoming central atrium with its waterfall and the exclusive residences above defines how the tower relates to its surroundings.

The central atrium with its waterfall is accessible to visitors and offers a place to pause within the busy city. The retail spaces and restaurants are easily reached from the street level and open to exploration, while the residential floors above remain completely separate from public access.

The tower's design incorporates 28 sides to maximize window exposure and create unusual light patterns throughout the day. This distinctive geometry allows almost every residence to have corner locations with multiple views outward.
