United Methodist Church of the Resurrection

The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection is a modern church building in Leawood with a large sanctuary designed to accommodate approximately 3,500 people for services and gatherings. The structure combines contemporary design with functional spaces for worship and community activities.

The congregation began in 1990 with just ten people meeting at McGilley Funeral Home before expanding to new locations. Over time it grew into a significant community presence across Kansas and Missouri.

The building features the Resurrection Window, a work of contemporary stained glass by Judson Studios that tells biblical stories through modern artistic language. This window shapes the spiritual experience for those who gather in the sanctuary.

The building accommodates visitors for in-person worship services and offers online streaming options for those who prefer remote participation. Educational programs and group meetings happen throughout the week, allowing flexible scheduling for attendees.

The church expanded from its humble beginning in a funeral home to become one of the largest Methodist congregations, attracting thousands of members over the years. This transformation from a small gathering space to a major community hub reflects remarkable growth.
