Umbrella Cover Museum, Museum of umbrella covers on Peaks Island, Maine, United States.
The Umbrella Cover Museum on Peaks Island displays more than 2000 umbrella covers collected from 66 different countries, arranged in colorful exhibits within a compact space. The small venue is entirely filled with these unexpected objects sourced from around the globe.
The museum was founded in 1996 by Nancy 3. Hoffman after she discovered several unused umbrella covers and began collecting them. The collection grew steadily and received a Guinness World Record in 2012 for being the largest of its kind.
The museum honors everyday objects by displaying items paired with donor stories and featuring regular accordion performances by the curator. Visitors experience an unusual blend of craft history and live musical entertainment.
The museum is located on an island reached by ferry from Portland and opens during summer months through Labor Day. Visitors should note that access can be weather-dependent and traveling by boat requires advance planning.
Each guided tour incorporates musical elements, with the curator playing the museum theme on accordion while visitors shake maracas. This interactive component transforms the visit into an unusual musical experience.
