Vestal Central School

Vestal Central School is a three-story school building with variegated brick exterior walls and steel frame construction throughout. The building stands on a reinforced concrete foundation and now serves as a senior center, alternative school, and office space for various operations.

The building was designed in 1939 by architectural firm A. T. Lacey & Sons and later gained listing on the National Register of Historic Places. This recognition acknowledged its importance as a school structure built during a key period in American education.

The interior displays Art Deco design details in hallways and common spaces throughout the building. These decorative choices shape how visitors experience the different areas of the complex.

Visiting is straightforward since different sections serve various public functions and remain accessible to visitors. Checking ahead about which areas are open for general access is helpful, as some sections are reserved for specific uses.

The original bus garage from 1950 still stands on the property, giving a complete picture of how the school campus was originally laid out. This structure represents a rarely preserved piece of early school infrastructure that shows how transportation was integrated into educational facilities.
