The Virginia Historical Society preserves more than 9 million artifacts documenting the heritage of Virginia through manuscripts, maps, photographs, and decorative arts collections.
Founded in 1831, the institution moved to its current location in 1928, establishing itself as a central repository for Virginia's historical documentation and research.
The museum maintains extensive Civil War collections, including Confederate weapons, Robert E. Lee memorabilia, and Stonewall Jackson's complete library.
The museum opens daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM except for Thanksgiving Thursday, January 1st, and December 25th.
The research library houses rare books and primary sources for genealogical studies, allowing visitors to trace their family connections to Virginia's past.
