Robinson House, Historic mansion in Richmond, United States
Robinson House is a three-story residence displaying Italianate design with detailed brick details throughout its exterior in Richmond. The mansion encompasses substantial living spaces arranged across multiple floors with decorative architectural elements typical of its era.
Anthony Robinson Jr. built the house in the late 1820s as a single-story structure that was expanded during the 1850s into a larger two-story mansion. This expansion reflected the family's growing prominence and needs during the mid-nineteenth century.
The building served multiple community functions after its original residential purpose, reflecting how historic homes adapt to new social roles. Visitors can see how spaces were repurposed to serve broader populations beyond a single family.
The building can be toured and is managed by a cultural institution offering free daytime access to visitors. Plan adequate time to explore the interior rooms and architectural details throughout the structure.
The Robinson family raised eleven children within the house while the estate originally encompassed about 160 acres of working farmland. This agricultural heritage has largely disappeared as urban development transformed the surrounding landscape.
