Jefferson Davis Monument, Confederate memorial on Monument Avenue, Richmond, US
The memorial consisted of a 67-foot (20-meter) Doric column surrounded by thirteen smaller columns. Each of the thirteen columns represented one of the Southern states during the Civil War.
An association began planning in 1889 and dedicated the finished work in 1907. Edward Valentine created the bronze figure, while William Noland designed the architectural frame.
The column carried the Latin text „Deo Vindici
The bronze sculpture is now on display at the Valentine Museum in Richmond. The museum shows the object in its 2020 condition.
A bronze female figure named Vindicatrix stood atop the central column. This figure embodied the notion of loyalty and devotion after the end of the conflict.
