White Horse Farm

White Horse Farm is a multi-section residential building with a stucco exterior and gable roof located in Newtown Square. The complex includes the main house, a barn from the 18th century, and a spring house, with various additions made over more than a century.

The house began as a simple structure in the 1770s and expanded over more than a century as owners added new sections and styles. During the 1800s, the property became known for its role in helping people escape slavery.

The property combines Colonial Revival and Georgian Revival architectural elements, with a front verandah featuring Doric order capitals added during renovations.

The property sits on Gradyville Road in Newtown Square and can be viewed from the road, allowing visitors to see the different sections from the outside. The site layout makes it easy to observe how the structures connect and expanded over time.

The original core of the house shows a simple design with one room stacked directly above another, reflecting how early Americans arranged living spaces. This straightforward layout reveals practical building methods from centuries ago.
