Whitehall Mansion, Georgian mansion in Mystic, Connecticut, US.
Whitehall Mansion is a Georgian-style house in Mystic, Connecticut, built with a two-and-a-half-story wood frame, a gambrel roof, and a five-bay front facade. The structure features a central chimney and displays the craftsmanship typical of colonial-era construction.
The mansion was built between 1771 and 1775 by Dr. Dudley Woodbridge, who used it both as his home and as a place to practice medicine. Its construction during the late colonial period reflected the family's prosperity and standing in the community.
The architecture displays late Georgian features with pilasters framing the entrance and a decorative cornice along the facade. These details shaped how the home looked and revealed the taste of the wealthy family who lived there.
The property sits north of Interstate 95, making it convenient to reach from the highway and close to downtown Mystic attractions. Visitors can explore the house and spend time enjoying the surrounding area in a single trip.
The house was moved twice to save it from highway construction, shifting roughly 100 feet (30 meters) from its original location. These rescue efforts allowed the building to survive and remain open for visitors to see today.
