Worthington Valley Historic District is a 8,000-acre rural area featuring homes and buildings that span from the late 1700s onward. The landscape contains examples of Classical Revival, Early Republic, and Greek Revival architecture mixed with working farms and open countryside.
Settlement in the valley began in the late 1700s and many buildings from that era still stand today. The area was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 to protect its rural and architectural heritage.
The Maryland Hunt Cup steeplechase has been held here for more than a century, reflecting how deeply horses and farming are woven into local life. Farms and equestrian traditions continue to shape the character and rhythm of the community today.
The area is located near Glyndon and sits adjacent to the Western Run-Belfast Road Historic District. Driving is the best way to explore this spread-out rural region.
