Caves Valley Historic District

Caves Valley Historic District is a rural preservation area with historic buildings, fields, and woodlands near Owings Mills. The landscape includes structures built from log, stone, and timber from the 18th and 19th centuries, spread across the countryside along the Jones Falls stream.

This rural area developed as settlers built homes and farm structures starting in the 18th century using materials found locally. The buildings reflect how construction methods and available materials shaped what people built over time.

The buildings here display Colonial Revival and Georgian styles that show how local architecture evolved over centuries. Walking through the district, you can see these different building styles side by side and understand how tastes changed.

You can walk through the property on designated paths that connect the historic buildings and natural areas. Wear comfortable shoes and bring weather-appropriate clothing, as you will be spending time outdoors in open fields and wooded sections.

The Irvine Nature Center has been located here since 2008, bringing environmental education and nature programs to the historic grounds. This pairing allows visitors to explore both natural and historical aspects in one visit.
