Worumbo Mill, Industrial heritage site in Lisbon Falls, Maine, United States.
Worumbo Mill is a textile manufacturing facility along the Androscoggin River featuring concrete structures from the 1920s and remaining industrial equipment. The site displays the scale and layout of what was once a major production complex serving the region.
The mill began operations in 1864 and remained the largest employer in Lisbon Falls until closing in 1964. Its decline reflected broader shifts in textile manufacturing as overseas competition reshaped American industry.
The mill shaped local development by drawing workers and families who built communities around this production center.
The remaining structures are visible from Canal Street, where the adjacent dam demonstrates the water power system that once drove operations. Walking around the area gives a sense of the mill's relationship to the river and town layout.
A major fire in 1987 caused extensive damage to the complex and left visible marks on the buildings that stand today. This event accelerated the decline of structures that had already ceased regular operations.
