Wynkoop House, Dutch Colonial stone house in Saugerties, United States
The Wynkoop House is a stone structure in Saugerties with seven bays, gabled roof, and dormer windows on the front face. The building is anchored by chimneys at each end and displays classic Dutch Colonial architectural form.
The house was built around 1740 by descendants of Dutch settlers and remained in family ownership until the early 1900s. Its registration on the national historic register occurred in 1984.
The house displays typical Dutch design elements visible in local craftsmanship traditions of Ulster County. The interior spaces show original details like exposed beams and traditional mantels that reflect the building style of this region.
The building sits along New York Route 32 near the junction with the New York State Thruway, making it easy to locate and access. Visitors can view this historical site conveniently from the roadside.
In the early 2000s local advocates prevented a planned conversion of the residence into an office building and saved it. This rescue effort preserved its original architectural form.
