Winslow Chemical Laboratory, Historical chemical laboratory at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, United States.
Winslow Chemical Laboratory is a three-story brick structure with stone trim located on the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute campus in Troy. The building features interior woodwork made from walnut and chestnut, which remain visible throughout its spaces.
Built in 1866 with support from John F. Winslow, the institute's fifth president, the building was reconstructed and expanded after fires in 1884 and 1904. These rebuilding efforts strengthened its role in the institution's scientific programs.
The laboratory served as an educational center for chemistry studies at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, accommodating forty students in specialized workspaces.
The building sits on Eighth Street within the campus grounds and currently houses research groups from different academic departments. Visitors can view the exterior and learn about its architectural details from campus walks.
The third floor holds the original chemistry library established through donations from the institute's patron. This collection reflects the personal investment made in the development of scientific education at the campus.
