Cannon Building, Greek Revival commercial building in Central Troy Historic District, United States.

The Cannon Building is a five-story brick commercial structure located at Monument Square in Troy's historic center. Its facade displays a Flemish bond pattern across 24 bays, with the ground floor preserving the original storefront while the upper levels now serve as extended-stay hotel rooms.

Alexander Jackson Davis and Ithiel Town designed the structure in 1835 using Greek Revival style. Following fires that occurred after the Civil War, the building received a mansard roof and other modifications that reflected newer architectural trends of that time.

The building shows how Troy grew as a trading hub in the 1800s, when local merchants became wealthy and invested in impressive structures. Visitors can see this prosperity reflected in the solid construction and the prominent spot it holds on the square.

The building sits prominently at Monument Square and is easy to reach on foot from downtown Troy. The upper floors function as hotel accommodations, so most of the interior is reserved for guests, though the street level shopfronts and exterior details are visible to all passersby.

The structure blends Federal and Greek Revival elements with later Victorian additions that came after destructive fires. This layering of different styles on one building offers a visual record of how American architecture evolved through the 1800s.
