Winston-Salem State University is a public institution in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, occupying roughly 47 hectares (117 acres). Around 40 buildings include lecture halls, student centers, and the C. G. O'Kelly Library.
The institution began in 1892 as Slater Industrial Academy with just 25 students and one teacher. It gained university status in 1969 and joined the University of North Carolina system.
