Yonkers Trolley Barn, Renaissance Revival transportation building in Yonkers, United States.
The Yonkers Trolley Barn is a three-story brick building with terra cotta details and arched windows on Main Street. The structure sits on a large lot near Metro-North railroad tracks and now houses residential apartments and the Yonkers Brewing Company.
The building was constructed in 1903 as a maintenance facility for the Yonkers Railroad Company and was central to regional transit operations. As trolley service declined in the 20th century, the complex was gradually converted into residential and commercial spaces.
The building shows how old transportation infrastructure finds new purpose in modern cities. Today it draws people who appreciate the craftsmanship of the past while enjoying contemporary apartments and local businesses within its walls.
The building is located in Getty Square at 92 Main Street and is easily accessible by public transit. Visitors can explore the surrounding area on foot and visit the nearby brewery to get a sense of how the complex functions today.
The structure is the last surviving trolley barn in Westchester County and earned listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. This recognition acknowledged its importance as a rare remnant of early American transit history.
