High Speed Thrill Coaster, Steel roller coaster at Knoebels Amusement Resort, Pennsylvania
The High Speed Thrill Coaster was a steel roller coaster featuring an 18-foot (5.5 m) lift hill followed by a 180-degree diving turn and several small hills across 200 feet (61 m) of track. The ride was powered by a six-cylinder Ford engine that allowed operators to vary the chain speed and create different ride experiences.
This roller coaster began operating in 1955 and ran until 2008, remaining the last functioning attraction built by the Overland Amusement Company anywhere in the world. After it closed, the location was rebuilt in 2009 with a new junior coaster called Kozmo's Kurves.
The coaster marked the beginning of Knoebels' commitment to providing family entertainment, becoming the first roller coaster installed at the resort.
Access to this ride is from the main area of the park, and visitors should know the experience is short and quick-moving. Visiting early in the morning or late afternoon typically means shorter waits and a more relaxed experience.
The coaster space was transformed into Kozmo's Kurves in 2009, maintaining the tradition of junior roller coaster experiences at the same location.
