Germania Club Building, German-American clubhouse in Near North Side, Chicago, US
The Germania Club Building stands five stories tall with a limestone base, featuring neoclassical elements, arched windows, and a columned entrance portico.
The Germania Club Building, constructed in 1889 by architect W. August Fiedler, originated from a men's chorus that performed at President Lincoln's funeral in 1865.
The structure served as the primary gathering space for Chicago's German-American population, which represented the largest ethnic community in the city during the early 1900s.
Located at 108 West Germania Place, the building contains multiple gathering spaces, including a grand ballroom, banquet room, restaurant, and bar areas.
The Germania Club Building combines Romanesque Revival and Classical Revival architectural styles, with thick masonry walls and pedimented windows adorning its exterior facade.
