Hancock Stadium, Football stadium at Illinois State University, United States.
Hancock Stadium is an American football stadium on the campus of Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois. It holds around 13,000 spectators and sits on the south side of campus, with a grass playing field, a scoreboard, and a sound system used during games.
The stadium opened in 1963 and was named after Dr. Howard Hancock, a long-serving athletics director and football coach at the university. Over the following decades it was updated several times to meet the changing needs of college sports.
On game days, the area around the stadium fills with fans wearing red and white, the colors of the Illinois State Redbirds. The team's identity is deeply tied to campus life, and attending a game is one of the most social things you can do in Normal.
The stadium stands at the corner of College Avenue and Main Street in Normal, making it easy to find whether you are walking from campus or arriving by car. Parking fills up quickly around game time, so arriving early is a good idea.
In 1969, this was the first college football field in Illinois to install artificial turf, a surface that was still largely unknown in the region at the time. That decision put the university ahead of nearly every other school in the state when it came to field technology.
