Old Colony Building, Office building in The Loop, Chicago, United States
The Old Colony Building rises 17 stories with a facade of brick and terra cotta at 407 South Dearborn Street in downtown Chicago.
The architectural firm Holabird & Roche constructed this 215-foot skyscraper between 1893 and 1894, making it Chicago's tallest building at completion.
The building represents the Chicago School architectural style with its steel-frame construction, large windows, and innovative design elements.
Located across from Harold Washington Library, the structure transformed from offices into student apartments in 2015 with modern amenities.
This skyscraper introduced the first internal portal arch system in tall buildings to increase wind resistance capabilities.
