La Grange Church and Cemetery, church & cemetery in Titusville, Florida, United States
La Grange Church and Cemetery is a historic site in Florida that features a wooden church built in 1894 in the Carpenter Gothic Revival style and an adjoining cemetery. The church building contains pine woodwork and stained-glass windows, while the cemetery holds numerous family plots including graves of Colonel Henry C. Titus and civil rights leaders Harry T. and Harriette V. Moore.
The original church was established in 1869 as the first Protestant church on Florida's east coast between New Smyrna and Key West. The current wooden building was erected in 1894, replacing an earlier log structure that had served the community since 1872.
The church took its name from a local Grange organization that met there and gave the settlement its identity. The cemetery serves as a space where visitors can encounter the names and stories of pioneers and civil rights figures whose lives shaped community bonds across generations.
The cemetery is open from dawn to dusk for visitors to explore the graves at their own pace. Guided tours of the church building are available by advance request, so visitors should inquire ahead if they prefer a guided experience.
The cemetery underwent restoration starting in the mid-1990s when a local history advocate launched a garden project to care for overgrown graves, and over 100 unmarked burials have since been identified and marked with new stones. This restoration effort uncovered lost stories and reconnected early settlers from the 1800s with their resting places.
