International Quilt Study Center & Museum, Art museum at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, United States
The International Quilt Study Center & Museum displays over 9000 textile artworks in a modern glass and brick building on the university campus. The collection spans four centuries and is organized across spacious galleries.
The museum began in 1997 when a couple donated 950 quilts to establish the collection. It moved to its current building in 2008 and has since grown into the world's largest public quilt collection.
The collection shows quilting traditions from many countries, revealing how people have expressed themselves through textile art across different cultures. You see handwork techniques and design choices that reflect diverse ways of creating and thinking about fabric arts.
The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday and you can see the main collection within a single visit. The galleries are clearly marked and staff can help you find specific areas of interest.
The collection includes roughly 9000 quilts, with most pieces kept in storage rather than on permanent display. This large holdings allow the museum to rotate exhibitions frequently and show different perspectives on global quilting traditions.
