Memorial Stadium, Football stadium in Lincoln, United States
Memorial Stadium is a football stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska, serving as the main sports venue on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus. The stands are framed by four corner towers built with limestone that give the structure its recognizable appearance.
The venue opened in 1923 to replace the former Nebraska Field as the new home for the university football team. Over the decades, the facility underwent several expansions that increased its capacity from around 31,000 seats to more than 87,000.
The venue serves as a memorial to fallen soldiers from Nebraska while continuing its role as a sports facility. Visitors can find several plaques on the grounds that honor the military history of the state.
The complex is open to visitors on game days, and arriving early is advisable because parking areas and entrances become crowded. Outside the season, guided tours are occasionally offered and require advance booking.
Since 1962, every home game at the university has sold out, marking the longest streak of its kind in American college football. On game days, the venue becomes the third-largest city in Nebraska by population.
