Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad 710
Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad 710, Steam locomotive at Lincoln Station, Nebraska, US.
The Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad 710 is a steam locomotive with a 4-6-0 wheel arrangement and two cylinders, classically known as a Ten-Wheeler. It stands today as a permanent display at the former Lincoln Station and is open to the public.
The locomotive was built in June 1901 under the name Number 31 for the Burlington and Missouri River Railroad. It later carried the number 710 and operated until 1954, before arriving in Lincoln in 1955.
This locomotive represents early American railroad engineering and shows how steam engines connected communities across the Midwest. It embodies the technological progress that would shape daily life in the region.
The locomotive sits at the former Lincoln Station and is visible year-round. It makes sense to visit during warmer months when you can comfortably see the exterior details and walk around it.
This locomotive was the first that the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad donated to any city in Nebraska, marking a significant moment for the state's railroad history. Its arrival in Lincoln in 1955 made it a symbol of the railroad's commitment to the region.
