Harrison New York Temple, Unfinished religious building in Harrison, New York, United States.
The Harrison New York Temple is an unfinished religious building planned for Harrison, a suburb in New York State. The land sits at the junction of Interstate 287 and the Hutchinson River Parkway, in an area surrounded by homes, and has never been developed.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced this temple in 1995, with plans for a building considerably larger than what was later agreed upon. A settlement with the local community was reached in 2002, but no construction ever followed.
The planned temple was meant to serve members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints living across the wider New York area. The long debate over its construction became a reference point for how religious building projects interact with local communities.
The site is easy to reach by car since it sits along major roads, but there is nothing to see or do on the ground itself. No facilities, paths, or structures are present, so a visit is limited to viewing the empty land from the roadside.
After 2004, the project stopped appearing in official church communications, yet the land was never sold or repurposed. Decades after the original announcement, the plot still sits empty while the surrounding neighborhood has continued to grow around it.
