Keweenaw Mountain Lodge and Golf Course Complex

Keweenaw Mountain Lodge is a historic resort with 24 cabins, a dining room, and a nine-hole golf course spread across about 167 acres of forest. The site also offers hiking trails, mountain biking paths, and winter activities for visitors.

The site was built in 1934 during the Great Depression using federal funding, creating jobs in an area where unemployment had exceeded 70 percent. This project was part of broader efforts to support struggling local communities.

The buildings show rustic design with low gable roofs, rough-cut stone bases, and dark timber from the surrounding forest. These materials shape how the whole complex looks and feels when you walk through it.

The resort stays open year-round and offers accommodations in historic cabins with activities suited to each season. Keep in mind that its remote location on the Keweenaw Peninsula means a longer drive, and road conditions can be challenging in winter.

The site serves as headquarters for the Keweenaw Dark Sky Park, an area with minimal light pollution from the sky. This gives visitors exceptional conditions for watching stars and observing astronomical events.
