Mount Desert Light, Lighthouse on Mount Desert Rock, Maine.
Mount Desert Light features a 17.5-meter granite tower with a black lantern that guides vessels through the waters of Blue Hill Bay.
The first light station was established in 1830, with the current granite structure designed by Alexander Parris and constructed in 1847.
The College of the Atlantic maintains this maritime landmark while conducting research on finback and humpback whales in the surrounding waters.
Visitors can observe the lighthouse from nearby coastal points, as the structure continues to emit white flashes every 15 seconds for navigation.
The lighthouse survived substantial damage from Hurricane Daisy in 1962 and Hurricane Bill in 2009, demonstrating its structural resilience.
