Jumbo Jet, Steel roller coaster at Morey's Piers, Wildwood, United States.
The Jumbo Jet was a steel coaster with yellow supports and green track sections that carried riders at 44 miles per hour over approximately 2,862 feet. The ride featured an electric spiral lift system, which set it apart from traditional chain-drive lift hills used by other coasters of that era.
The coaster was purchased by the Morey brothers from a German manufacturer in 1975 for 400,000 dollars and required a 250-foot pier extension for installation at Wildwood. After operating successfully from 1976 to 1987, the ride was eventually sold to a German broker and eventually found its way to Moscow.
The Jumbo Jet represented a period of technological advancement in roller coaster design, featuring an electric spiral lift instead of traditional chain mechanisms.
The coaster was located on the piers at Morey's and was accessible through the amusement park's main entrances. Since it no longer operates, visitors can only visit the historical location where the ride once stood.
A remarkable episode in the ride's history was its unusual export: the coaster was exchanged for two railroad cars filled with ketchup when transported to the Soviet Union. This unconventional trade was a creative solution to currency restrictions between the countries at that time.
