Historic Cold Spring Village, Open-air museum in Lower Township, New Jersey
Historic Cold Spring Village is an open-air museum in Lower Township containing 27 restored buildings gathered from across Cape May County and connected by dirt paths and green spaces. The collection includes homes, shops, and work buildings that show how people lived and worked during the 1800s.
The village was created by gathering and relocating 27 buildings from around the region to preserve heritage that might otherwise have been lost. Official recognition came in 2016 when it was added to New Jersey's Historic Register.
The place tells the story of rural American life through hands-on demonstrations and reconstructed spaces from the 1800s. Visitors can see how people worked, lived, and used the land during that era.
The site is easy to explore on foot with walking paths connecting the buildings and accessible during all seasons. Comfortable shoes are recommended since the ground is mainly dirt and gravel.
The village is home to Cold Spring Brewery, New Jersey's only nonprofit craft brewery, which operates within one of the restored buildings. Revenue from the brewery directly supports the upkeep of the entire site.
