The 1,159-acre territory contains beaches, dunes, wetlands, and woodlands along a mile and a half of Delaware Bay shoreline.
The land included a tavern built in 1807 at New England Creek, later purchased by Joseph Higbee who established a passenger landing from Philadelphia.
The management area serves as a primary observation point for North American bird migrations, attracting watchers during spring and fall seasons.
Visitors can access two miles of nature trails and viewing platforms, with specific regulations allowing dogs between September 1st and April 30th.
The location features six distinct areas: Signal Hill, Davey's Lake, Pond Creek, Sassafras Island, Hidden Valley, and the former Magnesite Plant site.
