Palm Tree, Town in Orange County, New York, United States.

Palm Tree is a town in Orange County, New York, covering approximately 1.5 square miles at an elevation of about 213 meters. The community functions as an independent municipality with its own local government and public services supporting residents throughout the area.

The town was officially established on January 1, 2019, following a 2017 referendum that resolved zoning conflicts between neighboring communities Monroe and Kiryas Joel. The creation came after years of discussions about boundaries and community growth in the region.

The name Palm Tree comes from Teitelbaum, a Yiddish term combining "teitel" meaning date and "baum" meaning tree, reflecting the Jewish roots of the community. Walking through the streets, you see how religious life shapes daily activity, with kosher shops, synagogues, and schools woven throughout the town.

The town administration holds regular board meetings, typically on the first Tuesday of each month, where you can learn about community matters and development. Keep in mind that the community is shaped by Orthodox Jewish residents and observes Sabbath restrictions on certain days.

This is the first officially designated ultra-Orthodox Jewish town in the United States, created to provide its own administrative framework for a rapidly growing population. Its establishment marked a turning point in how religiously specific communities can be formally recognized within the American legal system.
