Madison Lake State Park, State park in Madison County, Ohio, United States
Madison Lake State Park is a 182-acre property in the Darby Plains region featuring a 106-acre lake and surrounding natural land. The site includes a sandy swimming area, a boat launch, picnic grounds, and a walking trail that follows the southern shoreline.
A dam built in 1947 created the lake at this location. The state of Ohio established the park in 1950 to provide public access to the resulting water and land.
The land connects to the history of Ohio's Prairie Peninsula, which formed 4,000 years ago when dry conditions allowed prairies to expand eastward.
The park is readily accessible by car and sits in a rural area with straightforward directions. Warmer months are ideal for enjoying the water activities and outdoor spaces, while cooler seasons work well for walking the trails without crowds.
The northern section of the lake opens to migratory bird hunting while also supporting populations of bass, bluegill, and catfish. This dual use makes the park a destination where anglers and hunters coexist throughout the year.
