The forest encompasses 240 hectares of protected land containing multiple tree species, plants, and wildlife within the urban limits of Ouagadougou.

The forest received official classification in 1936 by the Governor of French West Africa after local Mossi chiefs protected it as a sacred site.

The name Bangré Wéogho translates to Forest of Knowledge in the Mooré language, reflecting its role in traditional education and spiritual practices.

Visitors can access the forest from Tuesday to Sunday between 5:00 and 18:00, with facilities including walking paths and documentation centers.

The site contains an 8-hectare botanical garden and a 72-hectare zoo area, offering opportunities to observe local flora and fauna.
