Camoes Garden

Camoes Garden is an urban park in Santo Antonio featuring winding stone pathways that lead through groves of banyan trees toward a hilltop pavilion. The space offers shaded areas for walking and sitting beneath mature trees.

The land originally belonged to a Portuguese merchant who kept pigeons before it was transformed into a public garden honoring poet Luis de Camoes following his death. This conversion reflects the historical ties between Portugal and China in Macau.

Local residents practice tai chi and play Chinese chess on stone tables throughout the day. The garden serves as a regular meeting place where people engage in these traditional activities as part of their daily routine.

The garden is accessible daily and can be reached by several bus routes, making it convenient for visitors. Entry is free, and the pathways are easy to navigate for a straightforward visit.

A bronze sculpture called Embrace marks the garden entrance, symbolizing the connection between Portuguese and Chinese culture. This statue is an often-overlooked detail that visually represents the site's blended history.
