Heritage Exhibition of a Traditional Pawnshop Business, History museum in Sé, Macau, China.
The Heritage Exhibition of a Traditional Pawnshop Business is a three-story building connected to a seven-story storage facility that displays historical collections. The complex preserves the original architectural layout and structural features from its construction year.
The building opened in 1917 as Tak Seng On Pawnshop and operated in that capacity until 1993. After comprehensive restoration, it reopened as a museum in 2003 and gained UNESCO recognition in 2004 for its preservation efforts.
The building displays how pawnbrokers operated in Macau and what items people pledged during that era. Original furnishings, tools, and documents from the early 20th century show the everyday transactions and habits of that time.
The museum is located on Avenida Almeida Ribeiro and offers access on multiple days throughout the week. Visitors can explore the grounds independently or participate in guided tours available at scheduled times.
The structure received UNESCO recognition in 2004 and preserves all original architectural elements from its 1917 construction. This complete preservation makes it a rare example of traditional building methods in Macau.
