Edifício Rainha D. Leonor, Modernist residential building on Avenida de Dom João IV, Macau
The Rainha D. Leonor building features double-height balconies that extend from duplex units, creating a vertical pattern across its concrete facade.
Built between 1958 and 1961 by architect José Lei, this structure became the first high-rise residential building in Macau to incorporate an elevator system.
The building represents the transition period when Macau evolved from a traditional fishing village into an international city during the mid-20th century.
Located between Hotel Sintra and Pacapio building, the structure maintains its residential function despite modifications to its ground floor commercial spaces.
The building's design draws direct inspiration from Le Corbusier's residential structures in France, adapting European modernist principles to Macau's urban context.
