Freilichtbühne Loreley

The Freilichtbühne Loreley is an open-air theater in Bornich set into the natural landscape along the Rhine, with stone terraces that accommodate thousands of spectators. The seating follows the hillside, creating a stage framed by its surroundings.

Construction began in 1932 when labor organizations started developing the site, and the work extended over several years to create this permanent landmark on the Rhine. The project transformed how this stretch of river was used by the public.

The stage has presented classical works alongside contemporary productions for decades, drawing audiences from across the region who value the blend of nature and performance. Today visitors experience theater in a setting where cultural activity coexists with recognition of its layered past.
