Arboretum Wildeshausen, Arboretum in Wildeshausen, Germany
Arboretum Wildeshausen is a tree collection spanning about 3.5 hectares with roughly 120 different species, surrounded by meadows and water features. The grounds feature labeled pathways, insect hotels, and an adjacent meadow orchard near the forest educational trail.
The arboretum was founded in 1998 as a partnership between the city of Wildeshausen and the local Rotary Club. This collaboration was formalized through a long-term agreement between the two parties.
The site serves schools and organizations as a teaching space for learning about native plant species and their ecosystems. Visitors can directly experience how different tree varieties grow and interact with one another in nature.
Visitors can stroll through the grounds along a roughly 900-meter pathway with signage identifying the different tree species. Parking is available for both regular cars and larger vehicles, along with opportunities to observe bees and insects.
The grounds display several oak trunks around 150 years old that demonstrate the complete life cycle of trees from planting through natural decay. These ancient remnants show how gradual the process is and underscore the patience required in tree cultivation.
