Renthof, Historic building in Mitte, Germany
The Renthof building combines early Gothic architecture with contemporary elements, featuring distinct wings and a central courtyard in the heart of Kassel.
Founded in 1262 as a Carmelite monastery, the structure transformed into a Court School in 1526 under Count Moritz, marking a shift in its purpose.
The building housed the Court School where composer Heinrich Schütz received his musical education, establishing its connection to German classical music.
The renovated structure now functions as a hotel, providing accommodations with modern amenities while maintaining its historical architectural features.
During World War II, the Renthof remained partially intact despite the devastating bombardment that destroyed 80 percent of Kassel's buildings.
