Marmorbad, Baroque public bath in Kassel, Germany.

The Marmorbad is a Baroque bathing complex in Kassel decorated with elaborate marble ornaments, sculptures, and water features throughout its interior spaces. The large building was designed to accommodate public swimming and leisure activities.

The Landgrave Charles I of Hesse-Kassel commissioned this bathing facility in the 18th century as a gift to the public for recreation and leisure. It reflected his ambitions to transform Kassel into a modern and cultured city.

This bathing place served as a social gathering spot where people from the city came together to relax and interact. It represented a shift toward public leisure and shared recreational spaces in German urban life.

The site is centrally located in Kassel and easily accessible by public transportation, with bus stops nearby. Visitors should be aware that the building is currently damaged and can only be viewed from the outside.

The complex contains over 300 individual marble elements and sculptures depicting scenes from classical mythology. This elaborate artistic treatment of the marble work showcases exceptional Baroque craftsmanship.
