Neue Galerie

The Neue Galerie is an art museum in Kassel presenting paintings, sculptures, and digital media from around 1800 to the present day. The exhibitions span multiple levels and spaces within the building, offering a broad overview of modern and contemporary artistic forms.

The building was constructed between 1871 and 1877, displaying characteristic neo-renaissance architectural features of that era. It was later adapted and expanded to function as an art museum.

The permanent collection displays works connected to the Documenta, a major international art exhibition that takes place regularly in Kassel. This connection makes the museum a key place to understand how the city has shaped contemporary art movements.

Visits are possible Tuesday through Sunday, with extended hours available on Fridays. Audio guides in German and English languages help visitors navigate through the collections.

A dedicated room displays installations by Joseph Beuys arranged exactly as the artist himself intended. This space offers a rare glimpse into the artistic vision of one of the most influential creators of the 20th century.
