Ich-Denkmal, Public art monument in Oberrad district, Frankfurt, Germany.
The Ich-Denkmal is a stone artwork featuring a pedestal with golden letters spelling 'ICH' on the front. Three steps at the back allow visitors to climb up and place themselves at the center of the piece.
The monument was created in 2005 as part of an artistic series in Frankfurt's Green Belt. Artist Hans Traxler and stonemason Reiner Uhl produced a modern conceptual work that departed from traditional commemorative pieces.
The monument speaks to individuality and self-awareness. Visitors can stand on the steps and become part of the artwork themselves.
The work sits along the Main River between Gerbermühle and Rudererdorf and is accessible around the clock. You can visit anytime and take photographs.
Unlike classical monuments, this work intentionally lacks a statue and instead makes the visitor the subject. The golden letters become visible through whoever stands on the platform.
